I’ve slowly been catching up on all the recent game announcements from this year’s Summerfest and PlayStation’s State of Play. I have to say that there are a lot of fantastic games coming out this year or next year. Some of the trailers were ones that I had no idea were in development, and it caught me off guard in a good way. I really liked what I saw and wanted to share my excitement about the games that caught my eye.
I’ve been a fan of Guild Wars ever since the early 2000s. I fell head over heels with the game and would spend hours working on my two main characters. I would search and explore everything before the main story took place and had tons of fun just doing my own thing. I played the spin-off with the new land and classes. My bestie bought me Guild Wars 2, which I devoured and spent so many hours just exploring. I just cannot get enough of this game. While I haven’t played Guild Wars 2 in a few years, I still hold the series near and dear to my heart. After all, this series got me into Warcraft and made me more open to playing online role-playing games. Guild Wars 3 was not something I thought would show up, and I am so happy it did. I cannot wait for more details, as the trailer had me hooked.
Until Dawn was the first game I ever streamed and holds a huge place in my heart because of that. I was blown away by the choose-your-own-adventure style of gameplay, along with playing detective to uncover clues to what is going on, and the survival horror elements that created an amazing experience. So, when I saw the trailer, I was immediately smitten with the plot being on an “abandoned” island with horny adults making bad decisions, a mysterious yet charming stranger, and a masked killer on the loose. It reminded me of the horror movie “Club Dread” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” part 2. While I only got a glimpse of what is to come, all I know is that I am ready for it. Hopefully, my downstairs neighbors are ready, as I’ll be getting jumped scared left and right. Sorry in advance.
Resident Evil Veronica is one that I’ve been eagerly hoping was the next game getting a remake. I have been a huge fan of Claire ever since she came to Raccoon City looking for her brother Chris in RE2. The game was fun yet annoying, but the cast of characters made it so much more worthwhile. Steve, with the Canadian accent and him feeling like an annoying younger brother, Alfred with an unhealthy attachment to his twin sister Alexa and his amazing laugh, Chris, who shows up to kick ass, and to a certain supposedly dead character who returned with new powers. The trailer did give a nice new opening with Claire going to Chris’ apartment in Europe before getting captured by either Hunk or Rodrigo. We get to see some of the different parts of the island along with Alfred and maybe Steve or someone else. All I know is that I am excited to dive back in as Claire.
I have been a fan of Silent Hill but not a majorly huge fan unlike with Resident Evil. It’s always been a series that calls to me when I see it like a survival horror siren. One of my favorites in this series is “The Room” but I do like all of them. I find that, unlike the Resident Evil series, Silent Hill makes you open up and question your own pain and the darkness that dwells inside. It can be an uncomfortable experience, but also a healing one. It’s why I am excited for Silent Hill Townfall. I don’t know much about what to expect, but what I’ve seen on the latest trailer has definitely made me more curious. I’ve been avoiding any other trailers or information because I want to go in blind. So, I’m not sure what to expect, but I am looking forward to the journey that this game will take me.
One of the biggest surprises was seeing the sequel to “The Wolf Among Us”. The comic book series was, and still is, near and dear to my heart, as was the first game. If you never read the series, it’s about the fairy tale characters coming to our world due to the invasion by Advisory. The main character, in both games, is Bibgy (Big Bad Wolf), who is a grizzled detective who has a case that he needs to solve. This time around he is going to the farm, the place where the fables who cannot pass as human go to so think of talking animals like three blind mice and the bears from Goldilocks. . In the trailer, there is a murder that takes place where the killers may be from The Wizard of Oz. At least, that’s where the clues show but in Fables there’s always a million red herrings before the truth comes out. It is nice seeing the characters again, and I am looking forward to returning to the world of Fables.
Lastly, but certainly not least, was the teaser trailer of Alien Isolation 2. The teaser gave away nothing but certainly had me on edge. I am looking forward to trying to be brave and play this game. The first game’s tension made my heart beat loudly as I nervously tried not to scream. I failed. But it is a game that I go back to here and there and one day soon I’ll beat it. Once I get courage. I’m sure that the sequel will be just as terrifying as the first game and the original movie. After all, in space no one can hear you scream, but my neighbors definitely will. I am looking forward to seeing what this game will have in store.
That’s all that I am dying to play, though I did see so many other games that have piqued my interest and will want to try out at some point. I can say that 2027 is shaping up to be a fun gaming year. I am curious about what games you are interested in or any recommendations.
